I would like to congratulate Bexley Council on its increased provision for mobility for wheelchair users.
However, at the five road crossings in Gravel Hill there is no special paving to indicate the crossings to visually impaired and blind people, who could wander off into this busy road believing they were safely on the pavement.
This could result in death or serious injury and I understand the council has been aware of this problem for some considerable time and has a number of suitable pavings available.
The provision of cycle paths, also an excellent idea, is another issue. The green- marked lanes on the bridge over the A2 crossing to the Crayford side of Gravel Hill are positively directed to the pavement of Bourne Road.
This pavement, because of street furniture, railings, lamps and overhanging trees and bushes, is patently not wide enough for both cyclists and pedestrians who may have heavy shopping, children, prams or pushchairs, elderly or disabled, or use a wheelchair.
Who will take responsibility for any accidents?
