Banstead Athletic fell to a 4-3 defeat on Saturday, despite outplaying Molesey in a final pre-season friendly at Merland Rise.
A missed penalty from striker Steve Fowler didn't help the B's cause as they prepared to launch their Ryman League Division 2 campaign this Saturday with a visit from the Met Police.
Despite losing, Banstead can look to new signing Dominic Feltham to boost their hopes of bringing back some silverware to Merland Rise by next May. Signed from Crawley Town, the 30 year-old former Sutton United striker scored twice before Molesey mounted a surprise comeback.
Epsom and Ewell face Dorking in their opening Ryman Division 3 encounter at Merland Rise on Saturday. On Saturday they lost 4-2 to Sussex County league outfit East Grinstead, despite going ahead through goals from Andy Rawlinson and Micky Owen.
Leatherhead manager Gary Richards is also hoping to revive his club's promotion chances.
After being in contention last season their challenge fell away but on Saturday they start afresh when Worthing arrive at Fetcham Grove.
