Enfield continued their build up to the new season with a comfortable friendly victory over Harlow Town on Monday night, Pat Cunneen writes.

Despite the lack of regular first team faces on display, they were still able to make it four wins out of four games played this week.

Former Enfield boss Eddie McCluskey brought his Harlow team, promotion winners from Ryman Division Three last season, to Southbury Road and they were given a tough test by the E's. After five minutes, Danny Clarke fired Gary Calder's men ahead.

Clarke went on to complete a brilliant first-half hat-trick as Enfield ran away with the game.

John Morgan also scored before the break to make it 4-0 at half-time and even when a number of substitutions were made it did not affect the E's domination.

Busby Finch rounded the scoring off after 73 minutes, sliding the ball past the advancing keeper to make the final result a convincing 5-0 win for Enfield.

Harlow put in a disappointing performance, and were no match for a rampant Enfield outfit who are obviously in a winning mood.

Last week they faced Cambridge City on Tuesday evening and put on another impressive performance.

Star of the show was Andy Tomlinson, 17, a youngster from Chelmsford, who controlled the midfield with skill and style.

The E's thought they had gone ahead after just one minute, Sammy Cooper firing home from a free kick, but the referee had awarded an indirect free kick and decided that no-one else had touched the ball although the keeper had clearly palmed the ball into his own net.

Joe Odegbami did score, to break his duck after half an hour, and although Cambridge equalised, Mark Bennett curled home with the best goal of the game to win it for the E's.

On Wednesday evening, Jim Chandler, the reserve team manager, took a young side to Witham

for another pre-season friendly.

The E's had to wait until the 75th minute for the breakthrough but eventually won 2-0 with goals from Scott Holding and Danny Jones.

On Saturday, Enfield travelled to Braintree for another friendly, this time coming from behind to win 2-1. An error by Steve Terry led to the Braintree goal but strikes from Richard Dunwell and Courtney Naylor were enough to clinch it.

Enfield begin their Ryman campaign with a trip to Chesham United on Saturday, followed by a clash with Dagenham and Redbridge at Southbury Road on Tuesday evening.
