A MOTHER claims her flat is so damp it looks as if the walls are covered with a black fungus.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, lives in a two-bedroomed flat in a block in Waterhead Close on the Larner Road Estate, Erith.

She has a two-and-a-half-year-old asthmatic daughter and is expecting another child.

Orbit, the housing association which now owns the flat had attempted to tackle by the damp by supplying her with ventilation equipment, she said. But this had 'packed up' two years ago and no-one from the housing association had come round to repair it.

Ron Peterson, of Orbit Bexley Housing Association, said his organisation had only taken charge of the repairs last February. He had inspected the flat and found no evidence of damp at the moment.

However, there was a problem with condensation, which had caused the black mould. He said the flat appeared newly painted and Orbit had not received a request for financial help at the time.

He said: "We are checking the ventilation equipment. We will also be applying anti-fungicidal paint to the ceilings."
