Merton's first youth music workshop is hoping to run the biggest one-day entertainment event in the borough this year.

The Music Workshop and Wimbledon Woodcraft Folk are staging the event on September 12 to commemorate the first anniversary of the successful Battenburg pop music shows.

Claire Shaw, a voluntary event organiser with The Music Workshop, said "We asked the Youth Service for a bigger venue, they offered us the opportunity to run an outdoor one-day arts festival."

Top street artists from Covent Garden will converge at Morden Park for this exciting arts festival which also promises headline bands and an alternative tent including acoustic, jazz and dance DJs.

A drama/comedy tent is to be erected for those with dramatic tendencies and there will be an opportunity for children aged under 10 to participate in dance and movement workshops.

There will be a multimedia game tent featuring the local band Small Scale Riot and a food hall is also promised where culinary delights from all over the world can be sampled.

Admission is free. The event has the backing of the council's Arts Department and Youth Service and support from Studio Fish, a multimedia company from central London.

Anyone wishing to help would be more than welcome as sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers are still needed.
