BIRDS, beasts and household pets are being brought together for a unique reunion in what promises to resemble a scene straight from the story of Dr Dolittle.

The gathering has been organised by Wood Green Animal Shelter as a chance for rescued pets to get re-acquainted and owners to meet for the first time.

A coach load will leave the shelter in Lordship Lane heading for the reunion in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, on Sunday, August 30.

Animals rescued from the other two sister shelters in Cambridgeshire will also be present.

The guest of honour is three-year-old Siberian husky Ellie who, since being rescued in 1996, has become the UK double of wolf-like dog Diefenbaker from television programme Due South.

Ellie has not featured in the hit BBC show, but is used to promote the series in Britain.
