A mother has spoken of her devastation at the loss of her 13-year-old son who died following a fight just yards from his Streatham home.

Fahad Kato collapsed during a scuffle at the junction of Eastwood Street and Leverson Street on Thursday. Medics tried to save him at the scene but he was pronounced dead on arrival at St George's Hospital in Tooting at 12.40pm.

Police are treating the death as suspicious but say that no weapon was involved.

Margaret Ssensamba-Mawejje cannot bring herself to visit the spot where her son died. It is already adorned with cards and flowers, including a tribute from Fahad's twin brother Faisal.

In a hand-made card he wrote: "You were the best brother any person could have in the world.

"I will miss you and so will everyone who knew you. Goodbye, see you later in heaven where you are smiling."

His mother said Fahad was a lovely boy who was loving to everyone and was always smiling.

She said: "As a mother, of course he was special. He was a boy you could bank on and would not expect to be in trouble with anybody."

A post mortem was inconclusive and the results of further tests were not known as the Guardian went to press. But police have confirmed that Fahad had a heart defect .

DI Geoff Whitehouse of Wandsworth Police is dealing with the case and is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "If there is anyone who knows anything about this incident and has not yet been interviewed by police then we would like to hear from them."

If you know anything about the incident call police on 0181 247 8735, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail.

He is due to reappear at Tooting police station on September 30.
