The victim also received cuts to his head in the fight outside Big Hand Mo's in Crown Lane, Morden.
Police were called after reports that around 20 people were fighting with bottles and glass near the pub.
Witnesses say the fight started shortly after midnight when the victim approached a group of girls at the bar. The fight then spilled onto the pavement where slates and pieces of wood were allegedly used as weapons by gang members.
Police also learned that a white Transit van was deliberately driven at the victim as the attackers sped off towards Hillcross Avenue.
