A YEAR after the execution style shooting of a drug dealer in the street, police are no closer to arresting the killer.

Unemployed Barrington Vantori White, aged 35, of Hither Green Lane, was shot three times, an inquest heard.

He died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and traces of cannabis, heroin and cocaine were found in his body.

His girlfriend Donna Michele Brown said she lived with Mr White and saw the attack in the street from her window on August 15 last year. She said: "I went to the window and pulled back the curtain. Barry was lying face down and there was a man standing over him, holding his hand out with his back to me. I saw him fire with a handgun."

The mother of two said the man calmly walked away from the body and got into a car. She went outside to Mr White and removed some drugs from his hand.

Croydon Police Det Insp Michael Froggat said Mr White had a plastic bag containing heroin and cocaine and a "reefer" in his hand. His mobile phone and neck chain were missing.

Ms Brown told the inquest Lewisham-born White had a lot of enemies and when she asked someone she knew to help Mr White after he was shot, he said: "Why should I help him?"

Coroner Selena Lynch recorded a verdict of unlawful killing at Southwark Coroners Court.

Mr White's sister Janet said: "Too many killings have happened and too many are unsolved cases."
