A TOURNAMENT with a difference saw 20 people try and smash their way to victory in a conker-playing championship.

The seventh annual Shorne Wood Country Park conker event complied with rules set by the World Conker Championships.

Each round lasts three minutes and if the neither player has had their conker smashed, there is a penalty shoot-out round.

There were five or six rounds before Duncan Garrod was crowned the adult winner for the third year running.

All the conkers were supplied by the country park to ensure a level playing field and they were replaced after each round.

Championship judge Tim Bell said: "It's all about skill rather than power."

"It was a good fun event. There was a lot of sibling rivalry and seasoned pros."
