A FATHER-OF-ONE is facing jail after punching a policeman in the face during a bar room brawl.

Jonathan Ford, aged 35, of Falconwood Parade, The Green, Welling, was found guilty of affray at the Old Bailey and will be sentenced this week.

Fellow defendant Daryle Long, aged 44, of Lovel Avenue, Welling, was cleared of the same charge.

The jury heard up to 15 people were involved in the punch-up at the Guy Earl of Warwick pub in Park View Road, Welling, on April 23.

Police officers from a patrol van burst into the pub late into the evening but were unable to restore order.

The court was told one officer tried to break up a fight between Ford and Daniel Dunn, of Windsor Drive, Dartford, but Ford turned on the policeman.

Prosecutor Hugh Blake-James said the officer was barged across the pub by Ford, who was shouting "get off me" and swearing at the policeman.

They struggled and then Ford punched the officer in the face.

He had to be restrained by a second policeman.

The court had also heard allegations Mr Long had snatched up a bar stool and was wielding it above his head, threatening the officer who was trying to break up the fight between Ford and the policeman.

It was suggested Mr Long only dropped the stool when he was hit on the hand with a police baton and two officers wrestled it off him.

But Mr Long told jurors: "I had no intention of having a fight.

"I wasn't drunk. My intention was to get a taxi home."

Dunn, aged 25, and Danny Long, aged 22, of Lovel Avenue, Welling, had already pleaded guilty to affray.

They will be sentenced together with Ford, who was remanded in custody.
