PARENTS have accused police of putting their children at risk by keeping quiet about an abduction for two weeks.

They claim even nearby schools were not told about the ordeal of an 11-year-old boy snatched from the street on his way home from school on September 29.

One mum with children at Sherwood Park Primary School, Blackfen, told News Shopper: "A child was taken off the street in broad daylight. People should have been told."

The mum said Sherwood Park had put out a letter after being contacted by Hurstmere School but it had only been told an "incident" had occurred and had no details.

She added: "Had we known we could all have stopped the children travelling around the area on their own."

A Bexley police spokesman said: "With hindsight, we should have contacted the schools sooner but this has been a fast-moving investigation which we believe was an isolated, one-off incident."

Police say the Year 7 pupil at Hurstmere School, in Hurst Road, left school with friends.

They walked along Hurst Road and into Penhill Road, where the boy split up from his friends and turned into Harcourt Avenue and then Rowley Avenue.

At some point between 3.45pm and 4.45pm it is believed he was taken from Ramillies Road.

His parents reported him missing to police after he failed to arrive home.

At around 7.15pm the same evening, the boy was found near Kidbrooke station, by station staff. He had minor injuries to his head and feet. It is not believed he was robbed nor sexually assaulted.

The boy is so traumatised by his experience police say he has been able to tell them very little of what happened.

The boy is white and was wearing a black Hurstmere blazer and red school tie.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the boy in the area to contact them.

They would also like to hear from two men who were seen in a white Ford Transit van in the area, with a registration number which includes the numbers 1, 2 and 6 and the letter Y.
