A WHOLE borough has been mapped out in thousands of photographs creating a snapshot in time for future generations' reference.

The Gravesend Historical Society took photographs of nearly all of the streets and different areas in Gravesham.

The group wanted to create a snapshot in time which can be referred back to after much of the borough is developed.

The seven-year project involved society members Philip Bayldon and David Jewiss, who took an estimated 11,000 pictures on 35mm cameras.

The pair succeeded in capturing around 90 per cent of the borough on film for the £400 group-funded project.

All of the photographs have been developed and are now being catalogued in the society's archive room at New Tavern Fort.

Group secretary Sandra Soder said the group decided to print the photographs rather than save them in electronic form, as it guarantees they will last.
