THE devastated parents of a girl killed in a road accident have built a sign warning drivers to slow down.

Kenny Morris and Mandy Donoghue have put the sign on Lower Higham Road, Higham.

It bears the picture of their daughter Kirsty, 11, who died after being hit by a van in October last year.

The 8ft by 6ft sign also features the words slow down' in large red letters and Mr Morris hopes it will encourage drivers to reduce their speed.

Mr Morris and Ms Donoghue, of Dombey Close, Higham, are also campaigning for the speed limit on the road to be reduced from 60mph to 40mph.

He said: "Even though you can legally drive at 60mph on the road, it doesn't mean you should.

"Drivers need to be responsible and travel at the appropriate speed. There are points where the road bends and it's certainly not safe to drive at 60mph there."

Kirsty was hit by the van at 6.40pm on October 12 last year when was walking down the road with a friend.

There is no pavement for pedestrians and Mr Morris is lobbying the council for one to be built.

He added: "We hope this sign will save other lives and prevent parents having to go through what we have."
