STUDENTS are being urged to shop landlords who put their safety at risk.
A new survey, conducted by British Gas, has revealed two in three students in rented accommodation have never seen their landlord's Gas Safety Record.
The record is a legally-binding certificate which guarantees gas appliances in their home are safe.
Now the National Union of Students (NUS) has launched a campaign urging students to demand to see the certificates.
The NUS is handing out beer mats to universities, including Greenwich, which carry more information on the campaign.
NUS vice president Veronica King said: "It is shocking but nonetheless unsurprising students are settling for cheap rather than safe accommodation.
"This survey has produced some worrying results and we would urge students to make safety their priority when house hunting."
