ELTHAM PARK TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD
The Guild's drama section provided the entertainment for the October meeting, with a performance of the play Cuckoo Time' by Mable Constanduros, a well-known comedy actress of the 30s and 40s.
the play revolved round a family preparing for a daughter's wedding and having to cope with a difficult aunt arriving from Woloomaloo - pronounced with great relish each time by Minna Banks. Another aunt had secretly written to a lonely hearts column, hoping to be rescued from the situation caused by the guest from Australia.
Due to a mix-up with letters and photos, the young persons wedding was called off and the whole situation was only resolved by the intervention of a neighbour who reluctantly confronted the con-man who had replied to Aunt Pop's letter. Naturally the threads were all untangled in the end and everyone was happy - all except Aunt Tom who left in high dugeon - hopefully to return to Woloomaloo!
The parts were played with great humour and wit by Joyce Aspell, Minna Banks, Margaret Harrison, Sylvia Heywood, Jean Malcherczyk, Dorothy Pierse and Betty Powell and the play was introduced by Betty Bain.
Next month there will be more Home-Grown' talent with a concert by the guild's own popular choir, The Golden Girls.
