MARCONI employees in south west Hertfordshire were left fearing for their jobs this week, following the suspension of shares in the international telecoms giant.
Union leaders were seeking urgent talks with Marconi on Wednesday, and the Government was pressed to intervene in a bid to safeguard jobs at the company.
Marconi employs 50,000 workers at sites across the UK, including at Borehamwood and Stanmore.
Marconi refused to comment on which sites would be hit by the job losses, but a spokesman for the company said: "We have just begun discussions of where and how the reductions will be achieved.
"It's early days yet, but over the next few days we will be talking with employees and beginning the consultation process."
