CHILDREN at Chelwood Nursery School, in Brockley, were jumping for joy after being awarded Beacon status.
The coveted award was given following an inspection of the Chelwood Walk school by the Department for Education and Science, which found both service and standards at the 135-pupil school to be excellent.
Headteacher Jane Keefe said: "The extra funding attached to this award means Chelwood can now share its good practice with early-years teachers in other schools."
Councillor Kate Donnelly, deputy for lifelong learning, said: "I am particularly pleased another of Lewisham's schools has been recognised for its achievement in raising standards."
