A CELEBRITY golf day took place in Orpington to raise funds for sport in schools. The event was organised by sporting society The Lady Taverners.

About £7,000 was presented to The Glebe School, in Hawes Lane, West Wickham, and the Marjorie McClure School, in Hawkswood Lane, Chislehurst, both of which teach special needs pupils.

Funds will also go to encouraging cricket in primary schools.

The event, which raised £3,500, was organised by Norma Izard OBE, of Pickhurst Drive, West Wickam, one of 10 women granted honourary life membership of the MCC, the headquarters of English cricket, for her work for ladies' cricket.

She said: "Everybody had a really good day and we've got sponsorship for another one next year so we can keep raising money for local schools."
