Lambeth: Teachers could face manslaughter charges over the tragic drowning of Bunmi Shagaya on a school trip to France.
The 11-year-old's body was recovered from a lake near Dieppe, Normandy, yesterday after a three-day search for the youngster.
French authorities are examining the roles played by the two teachers responsible for Bunmi, who was on her first school trip abroad.
Her body was found in 4ft of water, only five yards from where she was last seen by friends on Monday afternoon.
Officials could decide to charge the teachers with involuntary manslaughter - the equivalent of criminal negligence - or failure to help a person in danger.
State prosecutor Agnes Moinard is expected to announce within days whether staff broke strict French supervision rules regarding schoolchildren.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination was to be carried out today on Bunmi.
French police believe the youngster, from south London, drowned in a tragic accident.
Bunmi was a pupil at Hillmead Primary School in Lambeth and the school was shut today as a mark of respect.
The girl's devastated mother Salimata, who collapsed with grief at the lakeside, has returned home with two of Bunmi's aunts and a cousin.
