A NEW sporting event was held last week for 100 children in the Bromley area. The small schools' sports day involved five junior schools too small to hold an event on their own.

The children played hockey, football, athletics, cricket, netball and short tennis under expert guidance on Chelsfield Village Green.

Funding came from Bromley Council's sports development agency after they successfully launched an event for infant schools last year.

Bromley Mayor Councillor John Holbrook opened the June 29 event and said he recognised the importance of small schools.

Sports development officer Andy Bartlett said: "I'm pleased the partnership between schools and the council has worked really well.

Participating junior schools were Chelsfield School, in Warren Road; Pratt's Bottom School, in Hookwood Road, Knockholt; Manor Oak School, in Sweeps Lane, Orpington; Downe School, in High Elms Road; and Cudham School, in Jail Lane, Biggin Hill.
