THERE was traffic chaos in Rickmansworth this week and it will carry on for some time yet.
The tailbacks at the roundabout at the top of London Road are because of work by gas line operators Transco.
The work, which started last month, is expected to be completed in August.
On Wednesday morning, traffic stretched back to Mount Vernon in one direction and to Chorleywood Road and Scots Hill in the other direction.
A spokesman for Transco said: "We are relocating about 700 metres of iron main with plastic main and it will take about eight weeks to complete."
He rejected suggestions the work could have waited until the school summer holidays. He added: "We have a programme of £26 million infrastructure works and we have a tight schedule."
