Philip Drury is misinformed if he thinks the Grammar Schools in Sutton are privileged and well-funded.
The average funding per pupil for the year 2000-01 for the five Grammar Schools in Sutton is £2509, while the average funding per pupil for the non-selective schools is £2751.
My son is a pupil at Wallington County Grammar School, which receives £2538 per pupil, while Overton Grange receives £2867.
I accept that some of this extra funding is to provide special needs support, but the money has to cover the whole expense of running a school.
A school with older buildings such as Wallington (built in the 1920s) has far greater expense on the upkeep of its buildings.
I trust the facts rather than supposition about funding will be useful to your readers.
