I have written to complain to
National Clamps about the way
in which it works regarding clamping of cars.
I arrived at what I believed to be Matalans car park recently (just off Sutton High Street) at around 10am where I parked my car and headed off into Matalan to do some shopping. When I returned to my car two hours later, I discovered that my car had been clamped.
A man approached me and I asked why it was that my car had been clamped.
He told me it was because I had been over one and a half hours and that I had shopped in places other than Matalan. Needless to say I was very annoyed that my car had been clamped.
He pointed out that there were notices around the car park, which there were but these
notices failed to say that there was a parking limit of one and a half hours, which in fact your man had to agree with.
These notices are also unclear in their wording in saying that you are not allowed to shop anywhere other than Matalan. How could they have known that I had been shopping in other places when they put the clamp on my car?
I feel the way this was handled has been very underhand and after speaking to the Manager at Matalans it was clear that she agreed with me, but unfortunately as the car park did not belong to them it was out of their hands.
I am sure that Matalan would be unhappy with this type of treatment of their customers, as it has put me off shopping there.
I find the £50 fine unreasonable, especially as the notices do not state a time limit for parking.
How is anyone supposed to know the time limit if it is not displayed? I feel the notices should be changed, as according to an employee you are not allowed to set foot outside Matalans whilst parking there. It does not state this on your signs.
A CRAIG
