A batch of 26 pills believed to be ecstasy was seized by vigilant bouncers at Zoots during last Fridays club night.

Now two men have been arrested after being spotted making one too many visits to the toilet at the party night, which attracts the over 20s to dance until 2am.

At the time of going to press, the drugs which if found to be Es would be worth around £260 were with forensic experts under analysis.

Luminar Leisure, owners of Zoots, in Throwley Way, refused to say whether this was a one-off or part of a growing problem, but did say they make no concessions to drug users and dealers.

A spokesman, however,

for national drugs charity DrugScope, said the prevalence of ecstasy in the south east has waned in recent years, as the dance culture boom-time tails off.

With the issue of drugs in nightclubs attracting the media spotlight following the recent deaths of two ecstasy-fuelled young clubbers at a Southwark nightspot, Suttons police chiefs have been quick to praise the proactive approach of the contracted doormen.

They were not just working on the door, said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Conway.

They were consciously and deliberately looking at what was going on inside the club. They were monitoring people and noticed two men going into the toilets once too often. Then they got us involved.

They have really done a good job in order to prevent the drug dealing. Other clubs in the town dont always do that.

Luminar Leisure stressed its disapproval of drug

misuse. Sniffer dogs, CCTV, searches and fully trained door stewards with a wide knowledge of drugs are all

employed to keep drugs out.

Customers in trouble would be assisted, but anyone found with drugs on them would be thrown out, a statement said.

It is company policy to have any person who tries to sell drugs reported to and arrested by the police.

It went on: We commend Zoots door stewards who intervened and called police to persons who possessed the drugs.
