The tragedy of their baby daughters death will never leave them, but a Carshalton couple are throwing their energies into making sure others do not suffer her fate.

Comet readers were not alone in sharing in Cathy and Mark Proctors agony and helplessness as they watched baby Macey die at the age of 12 days, in March this year.

Her multiple cardiac problems could only have been cured with a heart transplant. But a suitable organ was never found during the later stages of Cathys pregnancy or Maceys short, tragic life - despite repeated appeals from the family through the Comet, our sister paper The Sutton Guardian and various other local and national media.

Now the couple, who live in Arlington Drive with five-year-old daughter Alanna, are determined to do all they can to stop other parents going through the same ordeal, by putting themselves at the forefront of the campaign for organ donation.

Cathy said: What were going to do is open a trust fund in her name and any money we can raise at any events will go into that.

My feeling and Marks feeling is that because we have had a lot of press coverage, locally and nationally, hopefully we can do our little bit.

Money raised through Maceys fund will go towards charities, such as Transplants in Mind (TIME), which support the cause of increased donation.

Next Saturday, the Proctors will be manning a stand outside Waterstones in Sutton town square, to raise awareness of, and give out information on the issue.

And with National Transplant Week starting the following day, there is no better time to drum home the message.

Cathy added: Im going to try and encourage people to get donor cards and to promote issues around organ donation. Well be blowing up balloons and giving them out to the kids.

She stressed: Weve had a lot of stuff through from TIME for the event, but were doing it for ourselves.

The Proctors will be in the town centre between 10am and 5pm.
