Everybody loves a freebie! Getting something for free can make your day or lighten your mood and some of us would go to extraordinary lengths to get something for free

In fact one in 10 women would go as far as throwing a tantrum or crying to get something for free. Some even admit to dressing up in uniform to bag a freebie, or dressing as the opposite sex.

On the whole though, it seems the British are quite an honest bunch as 89 per cent revealed, in a survey by 7UP free, they have never done anything extreme to avoid paying their way.

The best things in life might well be free, but what are the UK's most popular freebies?

Of the majority of people surveyed, nearly a third would love to receive a sampling goodie bag full of luxuries, while a quarter said they would prefer a cash handout. Other popular freebies include an airplane upgrade, a holiday or trip abroad or the slightly less ambitious stationary from work or stickers and balloons from the dentist.

When it came to deciding what is the best thing which has become free, almost a quarter of the population chose Nelson Mandela. The same number of people chose entry to museums.

The survey also quizzed the public about what they think should be made free in the UK.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of people chose public services, extra holidays and free time.

A massive 38 per cent of people believe public transport should be free, while 21 per cent would benefit greatly from free childcare.

Some of us would be only too willing to free up Friday afternoons to enjoy a long weekend and eight per cent would vote for an extra holiday in August to make the most of the British summertime.

Overall it seems, given the chance, most people would choose a freebie which helps free themselves from everyday stress and worries.

Although it's clear everybody loves a freebie, the survey discovered 20 per cent of people in the UK have never received anything for free!
