A new service for people suffering from HIV has been set up in south London.
Called The South London HIV Partnership, it is made up from the Terrence Higgins Trust, voluntary groups and local health authorities in Greenwich, Lewisham, Bexley.
It offers a telephone-based advice service for people affected by HIV or Aids and, where necessary, can refer people to specialist support services.
Of the 30,000 people in the UK with the disease, an estimated 22 per cent live in the south London area.
Liberal Democrat shadow home secretary Simon Hughes MP, speaking at the opening of the new service at Guy's Hospital, said: "This is an excellent example of what can be achieved by the NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector working together. The services offered are of a high standard and are meeting local need."
For advice, call the new service on 0845 1221 200 between 11am and 8pm, Monday to Friday.
