Imperial Medics 25 Finchley 14

London League Division Three (North-West)

Finchley appeared to be heading for a comfortable win when they led 14-3 at half-time, following some positive, attractive rugby. But that was followed by a poor, thoughtless performance that lacked fluidity and structure as they slipped to a defeat that left them bottom of the table.

Finchley were pleased to welcome back fly-halfTim Gilligan, but soon lost powerful No8 Tim Bennett with a hamstring injury.

Despite the blow, and conceding a penalty, they fought back well. Winger Mark George scored an excellent try in the corner, which James Webb did well to convert. Then full back Nash Cohen intercepted and burst through to touch down close to the posts, Webb again converting.

Finchley had good cause to feel pleased, but their second half performance was abysmal as Imperial ran in four tries, converting one.

On Saturday, Finchley are home to Old Merchant Taylors (3pm).
