The Magic of the Mile' was relived in part two of the Harriers Autumn Handicaps, which were staged at the Croydon Arena recently.

Race one winner Jack Appleton, in ninth position overall, found his dashing 150m win had taken its toll and he was unable to hold his form, leaving the glory to Martin Rowe, who romped away to win in 5:01.8.

Event leader Russell Burgess finished sixth and was fast enough to again benefit from the handicapper's "gift" to retain his overall lead by one point with a total of 38. Appleton and Martin Nelson, who finished third and fourth behind non-scoring 14-year-old Robbie Powell (5:30.8), are equal with 37 points. Rowe is next on 35.

Caroline Powell took out the women's event.
