Trinity School swept the board at the Croydon Cross Country Championships last week by winning all three age groups and beating 13 other schools writes Tom Geoghegan.

More than 60 Trinity boys competed at Coombe Road playing fields last Tuesday, October 9 and claimed the junior, intermediate and senior levels.

The junior event had a field of 130 runners and Trinity's boys worked hard to take the title and beat Whitgift into second.

Christian Bond ran a superb race to finish second and was given great support by teammates Mark Burford (fourth), Cormac Mannion (eighth) and Joseph Beavan (ninth).

In the intermediate race, Trinity's A team took the honours in a thrilling race. Christopher Mumford finished second closely followed by Lewis Grabban (fourth), Perry Mitchell (fifth) and Charlie Mason (14th). Trinity's B team took fourth.

Trinity's senior team finished their three-lap event strongly to secure the senior title and the treble, repeating the scholl's effort from 1998.

Mark Elsworthy was second, repeating his placing of last year, with Mark Hicks (third), Christopher Saunders (fourth) and Matthew Frost (13th) making up the successful team.

The 10 boys placed in the top 10 in their respective races were selected for North Croydon in the Surrey Championships.

Kieron Cooper, Trinity cross country coach, said: "We have a strong and enthusiastic squad of runners in the school at the moment and it is great to see all of their hard work in training being rewarded in competition."
