Greg Silvester, Special Olympics gymnastic champion, visited the Whitgift Centre as part of his nationwide Going for Gold roadshow to teach children about the sport.

Children with special needs from the Priory School, South Norwood, were impressed by role-model Greg's 25-minute display of his abilities, and especially his one-armed press-ups.

Crowds could also see his world gold medals and his own replica of the Olympic flame, which was presented to him after he was the only British athlete to carry it on its way to the Sydney Olympic Games 2000.

Greg, from Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, puts most people to shame with his achievements at only 23 he is also qualified to teach both mainstream and special needs gymnastics.

Martin Harris, roadshow co-ordinator, said: "It was nice to see so many friends who recognised Greg come up to him and shake his hand.

"He gives motivation to people to do something with their lives."

For those who missed his first visit, Greg will be returning to the Drummond Centre for a new show, October 17-20.
