An 85th-minute Tim Hambley strike sent Croydon crashing out of the FA Cup competition on Saturday.
Despite enjoying the home ground advantage, Croydon couldn't hold off the challenge of Dr Martens Premier Division high flyers Havant and Waterlooville, succumbing to their visiting rivals 1-0.It was a good, exciting cup tie played in front of the Sky TV cameras and national press.
But the game was lost five minutes from full-time when Hambley fired home from six yards to send the visitors into the next round and a cash bonus.
Croydon did have their chances too and young striker Nick McDonnell went close on three occasions.
Croydon's new keeper Matt Martin was also kept busy and he made sure his team stayed in the match with a number of fine saves.
Croydon manager Ken Jarvie, speaking on Sunday, said: "I felt the game could have gone either way but I was pleased with the team's performance."
