A WOMAN'S lifetime work for the local community in Harlow will have a lasting legacy, with a £46,000 donation to hospital services.
Majorie Giles, who died at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, in January last year after a short illness, had lived and worked in Harlow for over 30 years.
She was a primary school teacher and active supporter of her local churches, St Paul's and St Mary's, where she played the organ.
Even after retirement, she remained active and became a volunteer driver taking people too and from the hospital.
The money bequeathed by Miss Giles will be used to purchase special beds, a new visitors' room on Locke Ward, a new cardiac monitor and bedside curtains.
Some of the money will also be used to launch the Majorie Giles Training Fund, for nurses to receive special training in the care of older patients.
Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust chief executive Gary Belfield said: "This is a very generous gift from a lady who was active in supporting her local community all her life.
"We will ensure that the money is well invested so that her memory lives on in the work of our hospital."
