A MENTALLY-ill Eltham man plied a 27-year-old woman with drinks before taking her back to his flat and raping her, a Crown Court jury decided.

Restaurant worker Bayran Altan met the woman, who cannot be named, at Flamingo's nightclub, in Woolwich, where she had gone with her sister.

The woman became sick after Altan bought her a drink which she believes was spiked with drugs.

She had had three drinks before arriving at the Wellington Street nightspot.

Doormen at the club became concerned as the woman lay prone on a sofa and Altan kissed and fondled her.

She told the court on October 16: "I just remember feeling really ill. I couldn't stand up properly. I felt really sick and he helped me across to the sofa."

"I just remember sitting on the sofa, being sick everywhere. I would not normally get like that."

When the bouncers approached to check the situation, Altan agreed to take her back to her home.

But the jury at Blackfriars Crown Court heard how the 23-year-old took the woman back to his flat in Eltham High Street, where she was attacked.

She said: "I remember waking up in the man's room. It was a single bed. I was still fully clothed except for my shoes. He was just wearing a pair of boxer shorts and white socks. He was lying on top of me.

"I asked him to get off, but he wouldn't. I tried to push him but I felt really weak.

"I just wanted to go. I knew what had happened and I just wanted to go to the hospital to get the morning after pill. He tried to kiss me. I didn't want to because I didn't like him."

The jury at Blackfriars Crown Court was told that because Altan was mentally ill, it only had to decide if Altan had sex with the woman.

The jury found that he carried out the act of rape and convicted him of the charge.

He will face psychiatric reports before he is sentenced on November 16.
