I agree with your correspondent Alicia Ash last week about Plough Lane. I visited Plough Lane recently and I was disgusted with the condition of the ground. For some of those with me who remembered the glory days of Wimbledon Football Club, it was a sad moment to see the piles of rubbish and the stand virtually destroyed.
Long gone are the days when the FA Cup was paraded around the ground with pride.
The council does not own Plough Lane, it is owned by Safeway who are responsible for its condition. Unfortunately, because of the law, we cannot just go on the ground and clean it up.
What we have done is to tell Safeway that the condition of the ground is unacceptable and to clean it up.
We have also baited the area for rats on several occasions and charged Safeway for doing it. We also regularly clear the streets round the ground.
You might also be pleased to know that when I was at Plough Lane, demolition men arrived at the site perhaps Safeway is at last doing something about the
condition of the once proud ground.
