Once again the hunt is on to reward the boroughs unsung heroes and good Samaritans at the Merton Community Awards 2001.

Your Wimbledon Guardian has teamed up with the Mayor of Merton to provide recognition for all those people who every day perform acts of kindness which go largely unrewarded and unrecognised.

Since we launched this

popular contest in 1997, dozens of residents of all ages have been nominated by their friends and neighbours for making an extra special contribution to the community.

Entries to this years awards have been flooding in since we announced the start of the 2001 search a few weeks ago.

But there is still plenty of time to put pen to paper and nominate someone who you feel has demonstrated a clear community spirit by helping others in need, organising social events or improving the well-being of a fellow Merton resident.

All nominations will be examined by a panel of local people chaired by the Mayor of Merton, Councillor Stuart Pickover.

He will then present the awards at a special reception at the Civic Centre to which

all those nominated and

their supporters will be

invited.

Past winners have included Sidney Renacre, who was rewarded for his voluntary work with 60 tenants at Godfree Court and Sylvia Wilson, for her service to the Lions Club of Merton.

Nominating someone could not be easier. Simply fill out the form printed here and return it to the Mayors office, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden SM4 5DX to arrive no later than Monday, November 14.

The overall winner will be invited to attend the roll of honour ceremony at The Thistle Hotel, Whitehall Place, London, on December 13.
