Seventeen of Croydon's landmark buildings are to get a warm glow this winter when they are illuminated as part of the borough's Skylight scheme.

Over 20 buildings could be light up by early next year as a result of talks with new developers in central Croydon - including those behind Grants and Jury's Inn.

The 2.1 million lottery-funded project will be developed over 10 years and has the potential for increasingly spectacular displays.

Sixty foot images can be shown on town centre building to promote local activities thanks to six newly-acquired large projectors.

Councillor Adrian Dennis: By using powerful changing colour lighting and projection techniques the town centre has been transformed into a place where people come to see the lights.

"With the imminent approach of the longer evenings when the clocks go back at the end of the month many more people will be able to see for themselves the eye-catching progress that Skyline has made this year.
