I READ with amazement your report, on October 10, about a company being fined for displaying advertisements on lamp-posts.
The environmental services committee chairman is quoted as saying: "The signs impinge on the local environment but can also be a dangerous distraction to passing drivers". I suspect the real concern of the council is the opportunity to demand easy money where the "offender" has little chance of a reprieve.
This greed is seen in its true light when we realise the council is selling advertising space on boards displayed on roundabouts on roads throughout the entire borough.
Surely this is a far more dangerous distraction?
Yet it is actively encouraged by Bromley Council.
A very two-faced policy!
