I was deeply concerned by the article concerning the European Court ruling regarding night flights at Heathrow ( 'Night flight victors tell all' Guardian, October 11).

My family moved to this area in the early 1950s first to Hounslow West, and now we live in Sunbury.

Mrs Edmunds and her group are not nimbies. How can they be?

The airport was here first since the 1940s to be exact.

I cannot believe that when they moved in, Mrs Edmunds, Mr Cavaliia and Mr Thake and his family and the members of HACAN ClearSkies, unless they lived here before the 1940s, did not know that the airport was here.

The majority of people living in this area depend upon the airport for their livelihoods in one way or another.

Heathrow Airport's departure would not only throw many thousands of people out of work, but in my opinion the whole area would become an economic disaster area.

I believe Mrs Edmunds cares little for that, and it appears that the minority who side with her think likewise.

This 'courageous' group are now rubbing their hands with glee at the Human Rights Court's ruling, whose judgement was made without the benefit of local knowledge.

A judgement was also made without the benefit of a defence from the majority who live and work in the area of the airport who rely upon its presence for their livelihoods.

Where is the justice in that?

What about their human rights?

Mrs Edmunds and co have a choice.

They can as I believe Mr Thake has done move somewhere else, live in peace and keep their comments to themselves.

To the minority who so vociferously oppose the airport and its presence I have one thing to say if you don't need it and you don't like it, go and live somewhere else and leave those that wish to live here, with our airport, in peace.
