The largest national day of volunteering takes place this Saturday with 30,000 people expected to sign up for 1,500 projects across the country.
The event has been set up in the UK in response to the success of the day in America, which was sponsored by Gannett, owners of Newsquest.
Make a Difference Day (MADD) is organised by Community Service Volunteers (CSV), Britain's largest volunteer group.
So far this year 90 MPs have pledged to pull up their shirt sleeves and do their bit along with celebrities such as David Baddiel, Emma Noble, Ant and Dec, Ainsley Harriott and the cast of Byker Grove.
For more information about MADD and activities in the area call 0800 284 533.
