Chelsea and Leeds went into the match at Elland Road with unbeaten records to protect and the teams could not be separated by full time as they shared a point apiece, writes Derek Osafo.
The game was full of incident and more than one goal line clearance.
United manager David O'Leary was sent from the touchline after being incensed by Chelsea defender Graeme La Saux's two-footed tackle on Danny Mills, which resulted only in a booking for the Blues' player.
Leeds had the greater of the chances, but Mark Bosnich denied Rio Ferdinand, Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell.
Viduka and Alan Smith also had good efforts cleared off the line
But it was not all one-way traffic and Nigel Martyn was forced to save brilliantly from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was aiming to net against his former club.
In the closing minutes, Martyn turned Emanuel Petit's free kick onto the bar.
Next Sunday Chelsea are away at Derby, who will be seeking to restore some of their lost pride after a poor start to the season.
