MARLOW Bottom has a new hero Lyndon Yorke, officially Britain's most eccentric man.
After last year's Sir Steve Redgrave frenzy, the village once again finds itself under the national spotlight after Mr Yorke's triumph at the inaugural Best of British Eccentrics awards.
Mr Yorke, an inventor and creator of weird and wonderful machines, received his wacky 'Oscar' at a special awards ceremony in London.
The Valley resident beat off nine other contestants to clinch the title including a caped crusader called Captain Beany who has an orange head and eats nothing but baked beans.
Mr Yorke, who is delighted with the accolade, said: "I'm surprised but I'm honoured for the county."
He is often out on the Thames sailing his 1922 'amphibious' electric bath chair mounted on floats a contraption he calls The Tritanic.
He has designed and built more than ten other machines, similarly odd, from his garden workshop.
