A huge effort gave victory to the Belgrave men's team in the AAA Six-Stage Road Relay at Sutton Coldfield last Saturday.

Taking the lead on the third lap they held on to win over Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow, with the final winning margin no more than four seconds.

It is the team's first National running title since 1949.

Belgrave's strength was being solid a mere 23 seconds covering the fastest to slowest of the six men.

Lee Hurst was just behind the leading group after the first leg, handing over to Paul Freary who joined the leaders and ended his stage in second place. Steve Sharp took the lead which Kassa Tadesse and Alaster Stewart maintained in style.

It was then down to Spencer Barden to fend off late bursts from other teams.

For the first time a Belgrave Women's team contested the four-stage event and they surpassed expectations, finishing in seventh place from 86 teams.
