Claire Pauzers has been elected the first woman president of the Herne Hill Harriers establishing a break with tradition going back to 1889.
The club was formed next door to a bakery in Milkwood Road by the schoolboys in Jessop Road who used to put potatoes under the bakers oven when going to school so they ate a hot lunch.
Indeed the club can be said to have been founded on hot potatoes'.
Claire is HHH's cross country captain, has raced for England internationally and been a member of medal winning teams in the London Marathon.
She has won Surrey County titles on track, road and cross country and is club record holder for many events.
