WestcombE Park came out firmly on top in last Saturday's Natonal League 2 South match against arch rivals Blackheath at Goddingtion Dene.

Only two minutes had been played when Chris Trace booted a penalty for Blackheath.

But eight minutes later, after some good work by the Combe forwards near to Club's line, Pat Sykes went over but former Blackheath player Derek Coates missed the conversion.

In between time, Blackheath winger Charlie Abban left the field with a broken finger.

Then Trace intercepted a pass in midfield and raced through unchallenged for a try, which he also converted, to put Blackheath 10-5 ahead.

But then the tide started to turn against the visitors when they had Dave Glendinning sin-binned before Trace missed two penalties.

After 30 already exciting minutes, Sykes scored a magnificent second try after he kicked ahead and won the chase to ground the ball first. Coates converted to put Combe 12-10 ahead at the break.

Westcombe's forwards then showed their supremacy when Nick Oldham went through a melee of players to score and Coates was again accurate with the conversion to give the home side a nine-point cushion.

Prop Rob Emery was then sin-binned, along with his opposite number for fighting, buty by now, Coates had the Blackheath goal well in range and two further successful penalties clinched a 25-10 win for Westcombe Park.

This Saturday, Blackheath are at home to North Walsham. Kick off at the Rectory Field is at 2.30pm.

In National Division Three South, Old Patesians proved too strong for Old Colfeians, running out 23-15 winners on their first ever visit to Horn Park.

From a fine three-quarter break, full- back Scott Pollok scored OPs' first try on six minutes and 10 minutes later Matt Townsend scored Colfes' first penalty.

In the 26th minute, Ben Matthews scored OPs' second try from broken play.

But just before half-time, an exchange of penalties, two for Colfes by Townsend and one for Old Patesians from Ralph Tucker took the score to 13-9. But immediately after half-time, the visitors scored a pushover try from a scrum in the corner, converted by Tucker.

This led to a period of sustained pressure which almost led to two tries but the Patesians' defence held out, leaving the score 20-9 in their favour.

In the closing stages, Townsend scored two further penalties for Colfes and one for Patesians' Tucker to leave the final score 23-15.

On Saturday, Colfes visit league leaders

Penzance & Newlyn, kick off 2.30pm.

Shooters Hill beat Kent 1 side Erith 24-15, in a game where all the points were scored in the second half.

Lock Glen Miller claimed a hat-trick of touchdowns and winger Derek Raceva also notched a five-pointer, while Alex Lewis converted two of his conversion atempts.

Shooters Hill coach Alex Hens said: "It was an excellent win because Erith play in a league which is two divisions above us. It is also reassuring to know that we can beat teams who are, on paper, stronger than us.

"Hopefully, if we get promoted, this win will have given us a taster of things to come."

Brockleians were knocked out of the third round of the Junior Cup, losing to Sheppey
