The annual Wandsworth Arts Festival kicks off today (Friday) and promises to deliver a fat slice of culture and entertainment as hundreds of artists and performers come to town.

For three weeks dozens of venues across the borough will play host to a variety of acts, exhibitions and shows by highly acclaimed national and international artists, as well as local talent.

The festival, now in its 10th year, features dance, theatre, music, film, art and poetry promising something for everyone.

Cinema buffs can enjoy a week of feature length and short films at Battersea Arts Centre (BAC), ranging from documentaries about life in modern China to a collection of short features about urban myths.

For fans of fancy footwork there is a packed programme of contemporary dance at BAC as well as workshops taught by experienced professionals at the Royal Academy of Dance.

Theatre also features heavily, with plays ranging from dramas about the war in former Yugoslavia to comedy.

Youngsters have not been forgotten, with a programme dedicated to activities and performances for children.

Local actor and former Blue Peter action man Peter Duncan will give a series of workshops on how to be a TV presenter and there are numerous other workshops, activities and performances.

The highly popular community programme makes a welcome return, featuring local drama, dance and music groups. Events include cultural celebrations, variety shows, talent contests and much more. There is also a series of lectures and debates.
