Mystery surrounds a Putney schoolboy's role in the forthcoming Harry Potter movie.

Reports in a national newspaper this week stated 13-year-old Joe Sowerbutts had fulfilled his dream by being picked to dub over scenes from the £90million movie after the young leading actor's voice broke unexpectedly.

But in a call to the Borough News, film-makers Warner Bros denied Joe's voice has been used to replace that of 12-year-old Daniel Radcliffe, who stars as the schoolboy wizard.

The spokesman refused to comment as to whether Joe, a former pupil of Thomas's London Day School, in Battersea, had any role in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which is premiered in London on Sunday.

When contacted by the Borough News, Joe's mother was initially happy to discuss her son's lucky break. But later Mrs Sowerbutts declined to comment about Joe's involvement.

Joe, who recently appeared in the BBC's Inspector Lynley, is reported to have landed the role after film-makers visited his old school searching for the voice of Harry Potter for the PlayStation and Nintendo games.

A member of the film crew who asked not to be named confirmed Daniel's voice had broken towards the end of filming and it was likely another boy's voice would have been used.
