HISTORY buffs will get a chance to indulge themselves at a special event being held in Bexley this month.

The history fair, being held in Hall Place Bourne Road, Bexley, on November 17, from 10am to 4pm, will be a magnet for those interested in the history of their family or where they live.

Lots of local organisations involved in history will be sharing their interest and expertise, including family history societies, the Evacuees Association, a company with expertise in old photographs, the Centre for Kentish Studies, Friends of Bexley Museums Service, Bexley Goan Community, local history societies, and conservation groups such as the Crossness Engines Trust, Friends of the Red House, and the Joydens Wood Support Group.

There will be talks on how to begin researching your family history and on local places of interest, lots of displays and a demonstration outside by the Seige Society. There will also be guided walks around Crayford, Hall Place and the old Hall Place Estate.

Attractions for children include sessions with the Evacuees Association making a Second World War gas mask, carriage rides with shire horses from the Woodlands Farm Trust, a steam wagon and demonstrations of archery and the use of pikes.

The fair, organised by Bexley Local Studies and Archive Centre, is free, but you must get tickets for the talks and tours in advance.

For advance tickets call the centre on 020 8301 1545.
