A PLAN to encourage young people to get more involved in the district was given a boost last week.

After nearly two years' consultation and research, the Young People's Action Plan, which addresses a number of issues for young people, was approved by Sevenoaks District Council.

The plan, which has had funding from the European Regional Development Fund, involves the county, district and town councils, input from young people and other relevant organisations.

The five key themes in the plan are:

Opportunities to participate in the community; places to go and things to do; crime and anti-social behaviour; health and well-being and transport.

In it are proposed courses of action for the next three to five years which will be monitored by the councils and other parties including young people and voluntary organisations.

Swanley's Volunteer Bureau manager Jocelyn Wright said: "One of the important things in the document is the number of young people who will be consulted.

"Anything asking young people to participate in the community and get them to feel part of the community is welcomed.
